A train struck an auto-rickshaw that ran through a railroad crossing signal Saturday evening in Feni town. Two passengers died when the Chattala Express train hit their vehicle around 7 pm. The auto-rickshaw driver ignored warning signals at the Godown Quarter rail gate area. Local people pulled injured passengers from the wreckage and took them to Feni General Hospital. Doctors could not save the victims despite emergency treatment.
Police identified the dead as Hafizul Islam and his mother Fatematuzzohra. Islam was 40 years old and lived in Chhagalnaiya upazila. His mother was 63 years old. Five people rode in the auto-rickshaw when the crash happened. Three passengers jumped from the vehicle before the train impact.
Hafizul Islam died at Feni General Hospital after arrival. Medical staff sent his mother to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced care. Fatematuzzohra died during the trip to Dhaka. Family member Masum Billah confirmed both deaths. The auto-rickshaw was traveling from the hospital area toward Trunk Road.
