Trinidad is pissed about drones buzzing its airports. The government criticized recent drone activity near Piarco International Airport and ANR Robinson Airport in Tobago, specifically calling out flights over US military gear. The Ministry of Defence confirmed drones entered the five kilometer no fly zones, calling it reckless endangerment to commercial flights and a national security risk.
This started after a newspaper photo showed trucks and structures near the airport. Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar said the picture just showed support offices for a US radar system, not a base. She slammed the opposition for wanting the Americans gone, arguing that only drug traffickers would benefit. Persad Bissessar has repeatedly denied that the US presence is military, saying they are helping with airport-related work, not planning action against Venezuela. She also denied involvement in any US regime change efforts targeting Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro, whom she recently called a narco trafficker.
