Trump and Putin Clash Over Iran Ukraine Crisis

Trump and Putin talked for 50 minutes on June 14. Russian aide Yuri Ushakov shared details about their phone call during a news meeting. The two leaders covered several major topics during their discussion. Putin wished Trump a happy birthday as part of their conversation. This marks their fifth phone call since Trump returned to office.

The presidents discussed problems with Iran and prisoner swaps with Ukraine. Trump criticized what Israel has done and wants to build a negotiation team for Iran talks. Putin talked about setting up prisoner exchanges with Ukraine. Russia stays ready to keep talking with Kiev after June 22. Both leaders agreed that Moscow should stay involved with Iranian matters.

Trump and Putin also talked about ties between America and Russia. Putin admitted the relationship faces challenges but works adequately for both countries. The leaders remembered how their nations fought together during World War One. Their previous calls happened on February 12, March 18, May 19 and June 4. Trump started his presidency again last January.
