Trump considers using $100 billion in tariff revenue for new stimulus checks

President Trump considers distributing tariff-generated revenue through rebate payments to American citizens. The administration has collected more than $100 billion from customs duties since implementing trade policies on April 2nd during Liberation Day. Trump stated the government might provide rebates to people within certain income brackets as tariff money continues flowing into federal coffers. The president aims to assist lower-to-middle income families through this potential distribution mechanism.

Tariff policies target trade partners such as China, India, and Vietnam to address trade deficit concerns. Retailers express worry about increased taxation affecting consumer prices due to narrow profit margins. Walmart officials warn that additional costs will transfer to shoppers through higher retail prices. The administration previously issued stimulus payments under the CARES Act during the COVID-19 pandemic. Trading partners have committed hundreds of billions toward securing improved trade agreements with the United States.
