Trump hails US-South Korea ties after new trade deal lowers tariffs to 15 percent

President Trump declared that America maintains excellent relations with South Korea following recent trade negotiations. The statement emerged during a press conference when reporters asked about his upcoming meeting with President Lee Jae Myung. Both nations concluded lengthy tariff discussions that spanned several months before reaching an agreement. The White House will host the South Korean leader within two weeks for bilateral talks. Trump emphasized the positive diplomatic ties between the countries.

Washington reduced proposed tariffs from 25 percent to 15 percent under the new arrangement. Seoul agreed to invest $350 billion in American markets over four years. The agreement also requires South Korea to purchase $100 billion worth of energy products from the United States. Korean officials clarified that rice market access was not part of the final deal. Agriculture and trade ministries jointly denied any commitments regarding American rice imports despite earlier White House claims about agricultural market openings.
