Trump hits H-1B visas with $100,000 fee, one-day notice

The US government imposed a new $100,000 annual charge on H-1B visa applications through a presidential proclamation. This policy takes effect immediately for anyone entering America after midnight on September 21. Nasscom criticized the extremely short implementation timeframe as disruptive to global businesses and workers. The technology industry association warned that such rapid changes create widespread uncertainty.

Indian technology companies and their employees face significant challenges from this fee increase. Business operations will experience disruptions as firms adjust to higher costs and modified staffing strategies. Many organizations have already shifted toward hiring local American workers to reduce visa dependency. Companies maintain full compliance with US wage requirements and contribute substantially to the domestic economy through innovation partnerships.

Nasscom emphasized that skilled international workers drive American technological advancement and economic growth. The organization plans to monitor policy developments while engaging with industry partners about potential consequences. Officials will seek additional information about discretionary waiver processes available through the Department of Homeland Security.
