Trump threatens new DC emergency over ICE cooperation

President Trump threatened to declare another national emergency in Washington after local authorities refused to assist immigration enforcement. The chief executive posted his warning on Truth Social after the previous federal takeover ended last week. Mayor Muriel Bowser had ordered city cooperation with federal law enforcement but specifically excluded Immigration and Customs Enforcement from those requirements. She stated that the Metropolitan Police Department would return to standard operations without participating in immigration activities.

Trump accused Bowser of enabling criminal activity by withdrawing police support for deportation efforts. His social media message promised immediate federal intervention should crime rates increase. The president changed his recent praise for the mayor into sharp criticism over her immigration stance. Federal emergency measures had previously reduced crime statistics across the district, according to official reports. National Guard troops had operated under the earlier emergency declaration that lasted several months.
