TSMC probes ex-exec Wei-Jen Lo's move to Intel

TSMC has begun considering legal action against former executive Dr. Wei-Jen Lo over potential violations of Taiwan's Trade Secrets Act following reports of his impending move to Intel. The chip manufacturer suspects Lo may possess sensitive information about advanced manufacturing processes, including 2-nanometer and 1.6-nanometer technologies. Taiwanese media outlets report that Lo routinely took handwritten notes during confidential meetings and departed with several boxes of such materials.

Lo spent nearly two decades leading TSMC operations, where he introduced EUV technology and established the Nighthawk initiative that contributed significantly to the company's dominance. His potential recruitment by Intel represents a significant development for the struggling foundry business, though geopolitical complications may require diplomatic intervention. The semiconductor veteran could fundamentally reshape Intel Foundry operations if he secures a leadership position.
