Two Assam Rifles jawans die in Manipur highway ambush

Armed attackers killed two Assam Rifles soldiers and wounded five others during an ambush in Manipur's Bishnupur district Friday evening. The assault occurred along the Imphal-Dimapur National Highway near Nambol Sabal Leikai as troops traveled between operating bases. Naib-Subedar Shyam Gurung and Rifleman Ranjit Singh Kashyap died in the attack, while injured personnel received treatment at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal. Security forces launched extensive search operations to locate the unidentified perpetrators who opened fire on the military convoy.

Authorities arrested six militants from banned organizations across three Imphal Valley districts within 24 hours of the incident. Three Kangleipak Communist Party cadres faced detention in Imphal West district, with officials seizing multiple rifles and ammunition from their possession. Additional arrests targeted members of the People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak and the Socialist Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak in separate operations.
