Two young students died after drinking poison someone threw over a fence in Kano city. Four other children survived the incident and doctors are treating them at a local hospital. The tragedy happened on Kotu Street in the Gwammwhile area on Friday.
Abdullahi was 12 years old and Aminu was 14 when they lost their lives. Both boys came from Dandume area in Katsina State to learn Islamic teachings. Their teacher Malam Nafiu saw foam around their mouths after they drank the deadly substance.
Someone unknown tossed the poison over a fence on Wednesday. The children thought it was milk powder for tea and mixed it with water. They became very sick right after drinking the mixture. Police officers came to investigate and want to question the four survivors.
The boys' parents heard about the accident and are traveling from Katsina State. Community member Tahir Majid said everyone feels shocked about what happened. He wants government officials to find out who killed these hardworking students.
Officers took the poison away for testing to learn what chemicals it contained. The dead children remain at their teacher's house until families can hold burial ceremonies. Police plan to continue their investigation until they catch whoever committed this crime.
