Two TV Thieves Nabbed and Jailed in Accra

Two men received three-month jail sentences from an Accra court for stealing a television. Isaac Bortey, age 28, works at a factory and broke into someone's home to take the TV. David Abu Bonnah, age 52, runs a business and took the stolen television from Bortey. Both men said they were guilty but tried to explain their actions. Judge Susan Edufful decided their explanations did not excuse what they did.

The theft happened on May 17 at 3:16 in the morning at Nungua. Bortey snuck into a security officer's house without anyone seeing him. Albert Alabi Tsokosi was sleeping in another room and did not hear anything. Bortey removed a black Samsung TV that was mounted on the wall. The security officer caught Bortey eleven days later with help from witness Ebenezer Badu.

Police questioned Bortey after his arrest. He admitted he stole the television and told officers that Bonnah had it. Officers went with Bortey to find Bonnah on May 30. They arrested Bonnah at his Nungua location where he still had the stolen Samsung TV. Assistant Superintendent Lawrence Kofi Anane handled the case for prosecutors. The court told both men to behave properly after they serve their sentences.
