Cops pulled two women from a flooded river after four days. Police divers from the Fairbridge unit rescued a forty-eight-year-old woman and a twenty-three-year-old woman who were stranded at the merging point of the Shashe and Simukwe rivers in Matobo District. The Zimbabwe Republic Police stated the pair had been trapped since December twenty first before their rescue on Christmas Day.
Heavy seasonal rains caused rivers across Matabeleland South Province to overflow, isolating many communities. The rising water levels created dangerous, impassable conditions that led to the women becoming marooned. The specialized police sub aqua team conducted the successful recovery operation in the Sun Yat Sen area.
