Tyre mafia drains RM350m as MACC storms Klang Valley

Malaysian authorities raided 23 business locations on Sept. 29 after discovering a tire smuggling operation that cost the government 350 million ringgit in unpaid taxes since 2020. The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission coordinated the enforcement action across the Klang Valley, Penang and Johor regions with assistance from three federal agencies. Investigators froze 70 million ringgit held in private and corporate bank accounts tied to the suspects, and officials are tracking additional assets obtained through money laundering. Datuk Mohamad Zamri Zainul Abidin from MACC confirmed the agency would prosecute anyone profiting from corruption or smuggling operations that damage national interests.
