UBEC renews partnership push, eyes fewer out-of-school kids

UBEC boss Aisha Garba wants to beef up partnerships between government agencies and private groups to get quality education out to Nigerian kids, regardless of how broke their families are. She told reporters the commission is revamping its public-private engagement framework to make these collaborations work better and give everyone clear rules for teaming up with stakeholders.

Garba said Nigeria has about 17 million kids not attending school, which is absolutely wild. The exec secretary pointed to garbage learning outcomes and terrible completion rates as major problems that need fixing through better access and safer learning spaces. She wants state governments, development partners and community leaders to help expand educational reach and make better use of UBEC matching grants to actually move the needle on those numbers.
