UDM hands out by-election tickets in Nairobi, chases Kenya Kwanza clout

Mandera Senator Ali Roba distributed nomination documents to United Democratic Movement candidates at the party's Nairobi offices. The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission declared four positions vacant, and UDM presented credentials to aspirants seeking those seats. Fredrick Odhiambo Ochiel received approval to pursue the Ugunja parliamentary position in Siaya County after Opiyo Wandayi accepted a Cabinet Secretary appointment. Stephen Amwayi, Ochanga Rashid Mariera, and John Meyan secured nominations for ward races in Kakamega, Tana River, and Turkana counties.

Roba confirmed the party maintains its Kenya Kwanza coalition membership, and he pledged continued support for President William Ruto ahead of 2027 voting. The senator characterized UDM as a nationwide organization ready to compete across all regions beyond its North-Eastern stronghold. Party leadership views the upcoming contests as preparation for the general elections scheduled in two years.
