UEFA betrays fans, ships Barcelona match to Miami

UEFA has authorized Villarreal to face Barcelona in Miami on Dec. 21, marking the first such relocation of a Spanish league fixture in years. The governing body approved the move as an exception because of unclear regulations from FIFA, which remains under review after requests from Spanish and Italian football federations sought permission to stage domestic contests abroad. UEFA maintains its opposition to moving league matches outside home nations, arguing the practice damages connections between clubs and their supporters. The association plans to help FIFA develop rules that preserve competitive integrity and keep teams linked to their communities, while a similar match between Milan and Como awaits FIFA approval to take place in Australia.
