Uganda courts US tour agents in a fresh drive to boost American tourism

Uganda rolled out the red carpet for six American travel experts who flew across the world to check out what the country offers tourists. Ambassador Robinah Kakonge threw a fancy dinner party for these women who plan trips for rich Americans back home. The tourism board wants these ladies to spread the word about Uganda when they return to the United States. Officials hope this visit will bring more American visitors and their money to local businesses. The government paid for this trip through a special fund designed to boost trade and tourism.

Tourism bosses admit they have struggled to reach wealthy American travelers who want unique vacation experiences. The visitors will tour national parks and meet local business owners during their week-long stay. Uganda makes lots of money from tourism but still depends mostly on European and African visitors. American tourists could spend much more money but few know about Uganda as a travel destination. Poor flight connections and weak advertising have kept American visitors away from this East African nation.

The country earned big money from tourism before the pandemic hit and wants those numbers back. More than 600,000 people work in tourism jobs that support their families. These American agents could become powerful promoters who convince their clients to book Uganda safaris. Government leaders believe authentic travel experiences will appeal to Americans seeking meaningful adventures. The visiting women will return home with stories and photos that could transform Uganda into a hot destination for wealthy American travelers.
