Uganda's police chief Abas Byakagaba has designated nine senior officers to manage security zones before the National Resistance Movement primaries and 2026 elections. The decision follows deadly violence during early primary campaigns that claimed one life in Lwemiyaga-Sembabule when suspected military personnel shot a person during incumbent MP Theodore Ssekikubo's campaign launch. Additional violent episodes occurred in Kasambya and Isingiro districts. Byakagaba visited these troubled areas to evaluate conditions directly.
