Uganda elite want flights to Mauritius nobody is taking

Uganda and Mauritius agreed to pursue direct flights between the nations to boost tourism and trade. The commitment came on Friday at the first Uganda Tourism Roadshow in Port Louis. Officials from both countries discussed air links as essential for expanding visitor exchanges between the destinations.

Uganda received 1.8 million international visitors in 2024 and generated $1.2 billion in tourism revenue. Minister of State for Tourism Martin Mugarra stated that travel between the countries decreased from approximately 1,000 Ugandans visiting Mauritius annually before the pandemic to around 300. Both governments plan to sign a memorandum of understanding to formalize tourism cooperation and marketing efforts.
