Uganda Eyes 5B Payday at Malaysia Expo

Uganda wants to bring in $5 billion from trade deals with Malaysia over five years. Finance Minister Matia Kasaija leads a team at the Pearl of Africa Business Forum in Kuala Lumpur. The group has energy minister Ruth Nankabirwa, agriculture official Bright Rwamirama, and ambassador Betty Bigombe, among others. Malaysian business leader Muhtar Hashim opened the event by talking about the chances for both countries to work together. Kasaija told everyone Uganda offers good conditions for investors with helpful laws.

Energy Minister Nankabirwa said Uganda looks for partners in oil but wants all minerals processed inside the country. She mentioned Uganda has top iron ore, copper, and gold for mining companies to develop. Ambassador Bigombe called the forum a connection between nations. She described Uganda as rich in resources, with young workers. Any business coming to Uganda can reach markets with 300 million people in East Africa.

The expo focuses on farming, tourism, oil, technology, and science. Uganda offers opportunities to make food products from its fertile land. Visitors can invest in hotels near national parks like Kidepo Valley or Queen Elizabeth. Oil projects need money for pipelines and refineries. Tech companies find young talent at innovation centers. Gold and cobalt wait for mining companies to extract them properly.

Uganda Investment Authority helps new businesses with permits. Foreign companies can own 100% of their operations. They may send all profits home freely. The government gives tax breaks for important projects. Officials created 120 ready business plans for roads, farms, and factories. During the two-day meeting, both Ugandan private firms came to meet possible Malaysian partners.
