Uganda launches CHAN 2024 at Kololo, Museveni hails unity and sports revival

Uganda ceremonially commenced the African Nations Championship 2024 at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds on Friday. The nation partners with Kenya and Tanzania to host this continental football tournament. President Yoweri Museveni addressed attendees about sports development and regional unity. First Lady Janet Museveni emphasized the tournament's significance for national progress. East African Community officials praised the collaborative hosting arrangement.

President Museveni highlighted sports infrastructure improvements under his administration. He referenced facilities like Nakivubo and Hoima stadiums under development. The First Lady described the event as opening fresh opportunities for Uganda. She welcomed international teams from Algeria, Niger, Guinea, and South Africa. Government officials expressed confidence in their preparation efforts.

FUFA President Moses Magogo called the launch an emotional milestone for Ugandan football. Sports Minister Peter Ogwang acknowledged presidential support throughout the planning process. The tournament demonstrates East African regional cooperation advancement. Infrastructure investments extend beyond temporary tournament needs. Uganda positions itself as a future continental sports hosting destination.
