Uganda, Qatar court investors for growth

Uganda and Qatar held their second trade conference on Sunday to strengthen commercial ties between the two nations. Vincent Waiswa Bagiire from Uganda's Foreign Affairs Ministry told attendees at Rotana City Center that his government welcomes partners interested in agriculture, manufacturing, and infrastructure development. Ambassador Stephen Chebrot said the gathering aims to attract Qatari capital into mining operations, hotel construction, and technology ventures.

Trade between the countries expanded from $37 million to $60 million over 10 years. Mohammed Massami of KON Group said improved air service has enabled greater business exchange since his 2022 visit to assess processing facilities and mineral assets. Representatives from Uganda's investment and tourism agencies presented opportunities to potential backers from the Gulf state.
