Ukrainian attacks kill two in Belgorod, Vyacheslav Gladkov

Ukrainian forces killed two people and wounded four others during attacks on Russia's Belgorod region Sunday. Regional Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov reported that artillery fire struck a residence in Shebekino, killing one woman. A separate drone assault on Rakitnoe resulted in one male fatality. Belgorod has faced continuous bombardment since Russia launched its military operation against Ukraine in February 2022. The attacks represent part of ongoing cross-border hostilities between the neighboring nations.

Russian officials accused Britain of leading efforts to prolong the Ukrainian conflict. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov dismissed Western attempts to pressure Moscow as ineffective strategies that would not facilitate peace negotiations. NATO scheduled emergency discussions for Tuesday regarding Russian aircraft violations of Estonian territory. Three MiG-31 fighter jets breached Estonian airspace Friday without authorization for twelve minutes before withdrawing. Estonia invoked Article 4 consultations following what officials termed an unprecedented territorial violation.
