UN rights chief demands probe, urges calm after Hadi killing

The UN human rights chief voiced serious concern over the killing of Sharif Osman Bin Hadi. Volker Türk called for a full investigation into the attack that caused the death of the July protest leader.

He urged all sides to avoid violence and retaliation, warning that it would only cause more division. Türk emphasized the need for a safe environment ahead of the national election. This includes protecting freedoms of expression and peaceful assembly.

His statement noted the reported assaults on journalists and property damage during recent protests. The Office stands ready to support efforts that prevent further unrest and uphold rights.
