UNDP and MoHERST Launch 2025 Global Human Development Report on AI and Human Progress

The United Nations Development Programme partnered with Gambia's education ministry to present a major report on Friday. The 2025 Global Human Development Report focuses on artificial intelligence and how people can benefit from new technology. Government officials, students, and community leaders attended the event to discuss the findings.

Gambia scored 0.524 on the Human Development Index and ranks 170th among 193 nations worldwide. The country falls into the medium development category based on health, education, and income measures. When researchers account for inequality, the score drops to 0.329 because gaps between rich and poor citizens remain large.

Mandisa Mashologu from the United Nations said her organization helps countries build fair AI systems that serve everyone. Professor Pierre Gomez leads the education ministry and stressed that young people make up most of the population. He believes proper training can help youth succeed as technology advances rapidly across Africa.

The meeting featured expert discussions about how artificial intelligence might change jobs, schools, and hospitals. Young representatives shared ideas about using technology to create better opportunities for their generation. Speakers agreed that smart policies must protect human dignity as computers become more powerful.

Officials plan to continue these conversations about responsible technology use throughout the country. A separate report about youth unemployment will arrive next year to address job creation challenges. Leaders also want to map local innovation efforts and find ways to strengthen digital businesses across Gambia.
