Universal Audio's LUNA is now always listening in your studio

Universal Audio has transformed its LUNA digital audio workstation software through the integration of artificial intelligence with the release of version 1.9. The company expanded compatibility beyond its original 2020 Mac-only launch to support Windows systems without requiring proprietary hardware. Musicians can access the software at no cost across both operating platforms. The update represents a significant departure from traditional recording workflow approaches. LUNA has evolved from an exclusive tool for Apollo interface users into a broadly accessible recording solution.

Voice commands enable hands-free recording control through simple spoken instructions that respond to verbal cues from anywhere within a studio space. The software automatically identifies instrument types during audio input and assigns color-coded track names for streamlined session management. Tempo detection capabilities analyze musical performances and adjust metronome settings to match natural rhythmic patterns. Audio loops receive automatic tempo analysis when imported into project timelines. Dynamic tempo mapping extracts timing variations from existing recordings while preserving original musical characteristics.

Bill Putnam Jr. described the artificial intelligence features as tools designed to integrate seamlessly into creative workflows rather than obstruct them. The executive emphasized that effective audio software should function as an invisible partner during the music production process. LUNA 1.9 operates on Windows 10 systems and later versions, as well as macOS 11 and higher. Universal Audio continues to offer the software through free downloads. Musicians worldwide can access these advanced recording capabilities without financial barriers.
