US hits Myanmar firm over North Korea bomb deals

The United States imposed sanctions Thursday against an arms network that funds North Korean weapons development through sales to Myanmar's military. Treasury officials targeted Myanmar-based Royal Shune Lei Company Limited and several key operatives who facilitated bomb procurement deals. The network supplied aerial guidance systems and monitoring equipment to Myanmar's air force following the 2021 military takeover.

State Department representatives identified Kim Yong Ju as a Beijing-based coordinator who worked with Myanmar contacts to arrange weapons transfers through North Korea's primary arms dealer. Officials designated Nam Chol Ung for money laundering activities across Southeast Asia while working for Pyongyang's intelligence services. Under Secretary John Hurley emphasized that North Korean weapons programs threaten American security interests and allied nations throughout the region.
