US lawmakers slam Bangladesh violence targeting Hindus

Two U.S. congressmen, Raja Krishnamoorthi and Suhas Subramanyam, blasted the surge of violence happening in Bangladesh right now. They specifically condemned the mob murder of a Hindu man named Dipu Chandra Das and the killing of a political youth leader, Sharif Osman Hadi. Both lawmakers tied the unrest to dangerous instability following the country's recent change in government.

Krishnamoorthi called for a full, transparent investigation into Das's killing beyond the reported arrests, demanding maximum legal consequences for everyone involved. He urged the Bangladeshi government to take urgent steps to protect Hindu and other religious minority communities from more attacks, stressing the need to end the unrest and restore the rule of law. Subramanyam echoed these concerns, pointing to the broader deterioration in security that included newspaper offices being burned after Hadi's death. He described Das's lynching, which followed a blasphemy accusation, as appalling and unacceptable.

Subramanyam stated that attacks on minority groups, including homes and temples, have increased since the new administration took over. He emphasized his commitment to promoting stability and protecting vulnerable Hindu communities both in Bangladesh and worldwide.
