USTR delegation in Dhaka seeks labour law changes

American trade officials pressed Bangladesh to update worker protection regulations during recent diplomatic talks in Dhaka. Brendan Lynch from the United States Trade Representative's office met with textile industry leaders at the American diplomatic compound. The discussion centered on aligning Bangladesh's employment standards with global benchmarks established by international organizations. Lynch headed a three-person American team working on commercial agreements during their visit to the capital.

Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association representatives attended the session at the embassy residence in Gulshan. President Mahmud Hasan Khan told the American delegation that his organization has already begun conversations with 81 worker groups since taking leadership. The association continues to discuss specific legal changes with various parties, taking into account local conditions and industrial needs. Khan requested that American officials recognize the gradual improvements happening within Bangladesh's clothing manufacturing sector and maintain supportive policies.
