A university lecturer who disappeared during a diving trip near Tioman Island returned safely after swimming to shore. Eliza M. Yusup, 44, teaches at Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia and went missing yesterday at Pulau Chebeh. Strong ocean currents carried her 1.4 kilometers from her diving group. She reached Pulau Tulai around 11:30 last night after hours of swimming. A snorkeler spotted her this morning at 8:45 and alerted authorities.
Police Superintendent Sharif Shaif Mondoi confirmed Yusup appeared healthy after her ordeal. Medical staff at Kampung Tekek Health Clinic examined her for injuries. The Rompin police chief said she joined nine other divers and an instructor yesterday morning. The group started their underwater expedition at Pulau Chebeh around 11 am.
