Valve's next VR headset enters production with 600K units expected

XR Research Institute, a Chinese analyst group, reports that Valve's next Virtual Reality headset has entered production and will be released this year. Initial orders are estimated between 400,000 and 600,000 units for the first year.

The information, confirmed by Valve leakers Tyler McVicker and Brad Lynch, indicates that two VR models, Deckard DV1 and Deckard DV2, appeared in the latest SteamVR beta. These models suggest that Valve may release two headsets or multiple variants, with the Deckard likely launching in late 2025 at a price around $1,200.

Deckard will be Valve's second VR attempt, following the 2019 launch of the $999 Index. Despite the success of Half-Life: Alyx, the Index has only captured 13.2% of VR headsets on Steam as of January 2025.

The possibility of a new game to promote the Deckard headset remains uncertain, but an official announcement is expected soon.
