Varakashi4ED demands MisRed’s exit over Mahere win

The online ZANU-PF fan club, Varakashi4ED, is having a complete meltdown over a radio popularity contest. Their national chairman, some guy named Godwin Nkatha, is demanding the immediate firing of a ZiFM Stereo host, MisRed, whose actual name is Samantha Mary Musa. This is over the Rush Drive Time show poll that picked opposition person Fadzayi Mahere as the winner. Nkatha is throwing a full-blown tantrum, claiming MisRed totally rigged the whole thing. He insists the real, legitimate outcome was a tie between Tino Machakaire and the famously flamboyant Wicknell Chivayo, with Pedzai Sakupwanya coming in second. He called the announced results misleading garbage that lacks integrity, saying all smart Zimbabweans should ignore them. He says this fake news hurts public trust and ruins fairness, so the government needs to step in and get MisRed canned right now. Because, you know, the sacred integrity of a radio station's listener poll must be protected for the nation.

For context, this Varakashi4ED group is basically the ruling party's designated internet troll army. They formed after President Emmerson Mnangagwa told his young supporters to treat online spaces like war rooms. They spend their days on places like X, formerly Twitter, attacking anyone who criticizes the president or ZANU-PF. Researchers and human rights types say their usual move, especially against women who speak up or journalists, is to create a nasty climate of fear to shut down any real discussion. So this petition to fire a radio host for running a lighthearted poll fits their whole vibe perfectly. It is not about the awards. It is about punishing a platform for letting an unfavorable name trend.

Meanwhile, the station itself already addressed this nonsense. ZiFM Stereo previously clarified that these Rush Awards are not some official corporate endorsement. They are just a dumb bit of fun content driven by the audience of The Rush Drive Time, reflecting what those specific listeners think. The station does not care who won. They basically said the results are what they are, and the ensuing argument is just more engagement for their show. They are not backing down, framing the outrage as part of the conversation. So you have this online mob screaming about transparency and the people's voice, demanding a head on a spike, while the actual company involved treats the whole saga as free marketing. The disconnect is almost beautiful in its cynicism.
