Venezuela drills, lines missiles at US ships

Venezuelan forces conducted coastal military drills Saturday after American warships appeared near the nation's waters. Washington deployed vessels across the Caribbean under anti-drug operations, which resulted in attacks on three suspected narcotics boats and 14 deaths during recent weeks. Caracas labeled the American presence a direct military threat against the country.

Armed forces mobilized equipment along Cape San Roman in Falcon state and northeastern Sucre region. Soldiers fired artillery rounds toward the ocean while amphibious craft landed troops on beaches. Russian-made Pechora air defense systems moved by truck to strategic positions near the coastline.

Paratroopers seized uninhabited Patos Island close to Trinidad and Tobago during helicopter operations. Anti-drug forces arrested 30 suspects and captured ten vessels using over 5,000 personnel. Emergency preparedness exercises occurred nationwide, featuring earthquake response training after two recent tremors exceeded magnitude 6.0.
