Virtuos hit by mass layoffs as Oblivion Remastered team strikes over pay and AI push

French journalist Gauthier Andres revealed that development studio Virtuos plans to eliminate 300 positions across its global operations. The company collaborated with Konami on Metal Gear Solid Delta and assisted Bethesda with The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion Remastered project. Leadership faces mounting distrust from employees following excessive workload demands during the Oblivion development cycle.

Staff members expressed frustration over the absence of royalty payments despite the game's commercial success this year. Management implemented salary freezes and bonus reductions during February while simultaneously mandating artificial intelligence training programs for remaining workers. Developers at the Lyon facility initiated strike actions to protest the workforce reduction.

The layoffs will affect 200 positions at the China-based team and 100 roles across French and American studios. Sources describe internal tensions stemming from management's strategy of exceeding quality expectations relative to allocated budgets. Virtuos has not issued an official response regarding the reported workforce adjustments.
