Vitalis Chikoko Opens School Courts and Challenges Youth to Pursue Excellence

Zimbabwe basketball captain Vitalis Chikoko opened two new sports courts at Maranatha High School on Saturday. The professional player urged young athletes to work hard and avoid drugs if they want to reach the top level. Chikoko has played professional basketball for 15 years after starting his career in Germany. He currently plays for SIG Strasbourg in France where he has won two league championships. The team also named him Most Valuable Player during both title runs.

Chikoko broke his hand twice during high school but never quit playing basketball. He competed at Churchill and Prince Edward schools before turning professional. The tall center told students that sports require dedication and hard work to succeed. He said basketball was always his first choice even though he also played soccer as a youth. The captain wants young people to chase their dreams through sports.

Maranatha High School principal Evermore Chakwizira spoke about developing student athletes. The school wants every child to excel in both classroom studies and sports activities. Administrators believe sports can provide students with future career opportunities. The facility is also building an Olympic-size swimming pool to expand athletic programs. School leaders are investing heavily in sports infrastructure to help students develop their talents.
