Von der Leyen warns Europe faces hybrid warfare

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on Wednesday warned that Europe is facing hybrid warfare following a surge in drone incursions and airspace violations across several nations. Speaking at the European Parliament plenary debate, she described the incidents as part of a deliberate campaign aimed at unsettling citizens, testing the bloc’s unity, and weakening support for Ukraine. Von der Leyen said each case must be thoroughly investigated and responsibility must be clearly identified.

She cited recent violations, including MiG fighter intrusions over Estonia and drone activity in Belgium, Poland, Romania, Denmark, and Germany. The EU chief urged member states to develop a joint strategic capacity to address evolving threats in real-time. She said Europe must act with unity, deterrence, and readiness to protect its people and territory.
