Voters demand realistic promises from candidates in upcoming elections

With regional council and local authority elections approaching, voters in the Khomas region are expressing a strong demand for realistic promises and greater accountability from candidates. Some citizens, like Josephine Haman from Windhoek Rural, report having lost faith in the electoral process due to a lack of visible change in their communities since the last elections. She emphasized that consistent engagement from leaders is more valuable than campaign speeches.

Other voters, such as Vincentius Vries from Katutura East, insist that elected officials must be held accountable for their campaign pledges and should face consequences for misusing their positions. He stressed the need for youth inclusion in significant decision-making processes. Uendjii Kandanga from Katutura Central stated she would vote for candidates whose promises are feasible and based on a proven record of work.

Candidates have responded to these concerns by outlining their priorities. Swapo candidate John Moonde of the John Pandeni constituency pledged to focus on poverty reduction and food security through community support programs. He acknowledged the erosion of public trust and promised greater transparency. Gabriella Stadhauer, the Popular Democratic Movement candidate for Windhoek East, is committed to consistent public engagement and visibility, with a platform centered on crime prevention and infrastructure. David Kharuchab, an Affirmative Repositioning candidate for the Aranos constituency, advocated for regular community meetings and the public sharing of progress reports and financial statements to rebuild confidence.
