VP bids Japan envoy sayonara, bridge buddies forever

Vice President Jane Ansah said goodbye to Japan's outgoing ambassador Yoichi Oya and thanked him for strengthening ties between the two countries during his six-year stint. She brought up major Japanese-funded projects like the Lilongwe River Bridge, electricity upgrades in Kanengo and Old Town, and work at Domasi Technical College of Education. Ansah also mentioned that Malawi hosts more Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers than any other nation, which she said shows the country is stable and welcoming.

Oya congratulated Ansah on winning her election and talked about how Cyclone Freddy hit him hard emotionally during his posting. He wrapped up by saying he has good memories of Lake Malawi and Japan Day events, and he hopes the friendship between both nations keeps getting stronger after he leaves.
