Police arrested former cabinet minister Walter Mzembi on Friday for missing court dates. He appeared before Harare Magistrate Donald Ndirowei on Saturday. The magistrate sent him to remand prison until Monday. Mzembi failed to show up for court three different times. Officials issued arrest warrants because of his absences.
The court could not hear his case on Saturday. State prosecutor Tendai Shonhayi asked to examine medical papers that Mzembi submitted. These documents might explain why he missed his court appearances. Defense lawyer Killian Mandike from Chiturumani Law Chambers told the court they want to provide more paperwork. The additional documents should justify why Mzembi did not attend his scheduled hearings.
