Wanjiru storms Berlin Marathon, Sawe rules men's race

Rosemary Wanjiru captured the women's title at the 2025 Berlin Marathon, completing the course in 2 hours, 21 minutes, and 4 seconds. The Kenyan runner established her commanding position after reaching the 25-kilometer mark and maintained her advantage throughout the remaining distance. Ethiopia's Dera Dida secured second place, finishing merely three seconds behind the champion, while Azmera Gebru earned third position with a time of 2 hours, 21 minutes, and 29 seconds. President William Ruto congratulated Wanjiru for her outstanding performance. The men's competition witnessed Sebastien Sawe claiming victory with a finishing time of 2 hours, 2 minutes, and 15 seconds.

Sawe extended his perfect marathon record, having previously triumphed at the Valencia Marathon in 2024 and the London Marathon in 2025. The Kenyan athlete continues his undefeated streak since entering marathon competition, establishing himself as a formidable presence in international distance running.
