War Veterans Choked as White Farmers Land Big Payout

War veterans lost their court fight against the government paying white farmers for lost land. The High Court threw out their case against a deal worth 3.5 billion dollars. The veterans said the payment plan treated white farmers better than black people who suffered during colonial times. They wanted the government to stop the compensation agreement. Judge Rogers Manyangadze said their arguments did not work.

The government signed the Global Compensation Deed on July 29, 2020. Officials said the deal follows the Constitution and helps solve land disputes. The agreement pays white farmers only for improvements they made on farms. The judge said the Constitution allows this type of payment. He ruled that the veterans could not prove the deal broke any laws.

The court found problems with how the veterans filed their case. They tried to represent themselves and the public at the same time. Legal rules do not allow this approach. The judge said their case had serious flaws and dismissed it without making anyone pay court costs.
