Warren presses Trump team on possible AI bailouts

Senator Elizabeth Warren has formally requested information from the Trump administration regarding potential taxpayer-funded support for artificial intelligence companies experiencing financial difficulties. The Massachusetts Democrat addressed her inquiry to White House AI advisor David Sacks and Office of Science and Technology Policy director Michael Kratsios, expressing concern that close relationships between the president and technology executives could result in government intervention when investment returns fail to materialize.

Warren referenced OpenAI's request to expand the Advanced Manufacturing Investment Credit beyond semiconductor production to include AI server manufacturing and data center construction. The senator noted that artificial intelligence firms are spending billions on infrastructure despite uncertain revenue prospects, with OpenAI pursuing a partnership worth hundreds of billions alongside other major industry commitments.

The lawmaker drew parallels to previous financial crises where heavily indebted entities sought government assistance, questioning whether the administration intends to provide financial backstops or other support to OpenAI and similar companies. Officials must respond by early December to queries about extending tax credits to AI infrastructure development.
