West Africa drug fight shifts gears, minister calls for unity

Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak told a regional conference in Accra that West Africa is getting hammered by synthetic drugs popping up everywhere and cocaine trafficking routes constantly shifting around. The Asawase MP said Ghana is going with a three-part plan that covers better operational readiness, drug treatment programs focused on people, and tighter cooperation between agencies and neighboring countries.

Mohammed-Mubarak pointed out that residents across the subregion want actual results from leadership instead of just hearing fancy speeches about the problem. He emphasized that intelligence sharing needs to get way stronger, and cross-border enforcement has to step up because the drug market keeps evolving faster than current responses can handle.
