This might be a simple question, but where did the $7.7 million go? Is it just sitting in a bank account for Blackdeck? Did Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu spend it all on the houses and cars the state is now trying to seize? Or is it stashed away somewhere offshore? It's a huge amount of money to just vanish.

I feel like we are all focused on the trial and the conviction, but no one is talking about recovering the actual cash. Even if Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu go to jail for 20 years if they get to keep the money, then why did they really lose? They just took $7 million from the country. We should be following the money.

It's definitely not sitting in a local bank account under the name "Blackdeck." As soon as that money hit, you can be sure Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu started moving it. They would have bought assets, which is exactly why the state is now trying to seize their properties.

They probably moved a lot of it offshore into accounts that are much harder to trace. This is the classic playbook. The prosecutors will use forensic accountants to try and trace as much as they can, but the sad reality is that the country will probably never see all of that money again. Even if Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu go to jail for a long time, they’ve already done the damage.
