Widow thanks govt for maize amid hunger crisis

A woman in Kasungu has thanked the government for emergency food aid. Natalia Chirambo, from Msowoya Village under Traditional Authority Simlemba, said the distributed maize arrived at a critical moment. Many households were struggling with daily meals. Chirambo faced severe hardship after her husband died three years ago. She became the sole provider under tough economic conditions, with constant hunger a reality for her family.

The local chief also praised the government's response. He cited erratic rainfall and poor harvests as reasons for widespread hunger in his area. The intervention brought relief to fearful communities. District Disaster Officer Shepherd Jere warned beneficiaries not to sell the relief maize. He stated the aid strictly addresses hunger for over a thousand identified vulnerable households. Anyone selling it will face legal consequences. This distribution is part of broader national efforts to fight food insecurity caused by climate shocks.
