Windows 11 26H2 may cut idle RAM use by up to 3 GB

Windows 11 26H2 might slash idle RAM usage without official fanfare. Testers spotted drops around 2 GB, while some claimed savings hitting 3 GB after updating their rigs.

One laptop with 16 GB went from 10 GB idle down to 7 GB post-install. Available memory jumped to 8.8 GB during that specific check. Remember that cached data gets freed instantly when apps demand resources.

Low Latency Profile now covers way more software beyond default Microsoft tools. This feature spikes CPU frequency briefly during launches to cut startup lag. Edge and Outlook loaded roughly 40 percent quicker in limited testing scenarios.

System menus responded up to 70 percent faster according to those same benchmarks. Results vary wildly depending on your specific hardware configuration. Microsoft has not confirmed any dedicated memory optimization feature for this release yet.
