Breaking up family arguments with jagged glass definitely escalates things way past normal domestic drama. Monalisa Phiri from Insuza Village stands accused of slicing up her partner, Mpumelelo Mpofu, using a shattered beer bottle. This Umguza District resident allegedly found her boyfriend fighting with an aunt and decided violence constituted the best solution.
Phiri reportedly smashed a glass container against Mpofu’s skull before using sharp shards to stab his stomach and head. The victim collapsed while bleeding out as the suspect bolted. Law enforcement eventually tracked her down in a different settlement after a manhunt.
Bulawayo regional magistrate Mark Dzira remanded Phiri into custody pending trial for attempted murder charges. The accused did not enter a plea during her initial appearance.
That same magistrate also handled two men from Makokoba suburb facing similar attempted murder counts for vigilante justice gone wrong. Jabulani Moyo and Thulani Muza allegedly beat Thulani Ncube half to death over a missing cellphone. The pair denied guilt but were told to seek bail elsewhere due to jurisdiction limits.
