Upper West Regional Peace Council trained women from Lambussie during a three-day leadership workshop. The event ran from June 10-12 at the district capital with money from Denmark and Luxembourg governments. United Nations Development Programme supported the project through Ghana's Gender Department. Clifford Tampuori said women need more chances to join local government decisions. The training gave participants skills to become community leaders and peace makers.
Women came from Christian Mothers groups and Muslim organizations across the region. Theodora Williams Anti taught conflict analysis and mediation techniques to all participants. She helped them learn about gender issues during peace building efforts. The Foundation for Security Development director used local examples to explain problems. Women practiced ways to solve disputes without going to court systems.
Officials picked 30 women for special mentorship programs after the workshop ended. These selected participants will meet with traditional chiefs and security officers. Rev George Apasera told women they hold keys to healing broken communities. The council member said conflicts hurt women more than other people. Participants promised to work harder on peace building projects across their areas.
