Thomas Andy Owusu faces punishment for taking bribes during illegal mining deals. The court found him guilty Wednesday after he agreed to plead guilty under special prosecutor rules. Owusu worked as an aide to NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi-Boasiako. He helped people skip official steps to gain mining permits for cash payments. A 2019 investigation by Tiger Eye PI caught him breaking the law.
The judge ordered Owusu to pay 6,000 Ghana cedis as a fine. He must also give 200,000 Ghana cedis back to the government as punishment money. The court removed two other charges against him after he made his deal. His case comes from the same investigation that caught other government workers selling mining licenses.
Charles Bissue still faces trial for using his government job to make money illegally. He worked for the president and helped arrange the corrupt mining deals. The court will hear his case again on June 10 for another meeting. Prosecutors say Bissue broke laws about public officials making personal profits. Both men got caught helping illegal miners avoid proper licensing procedures.
