Ex aide jailed for RM1.76m bribe

A former aide to a federal minister was sentenced to six years in prison and fined 8.8 million ringgit for accepting bribes totaling 1.76 million ringgit. Saifullah Minggu, who worked for the then-Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Mohamaddin Ketapi, was convicted on eight counts of corruption related to a company's tender for creative production services.

The offences occurred at several locations over four months. The Sessions Court judge stated that the defence did not successfully challenge the prosecution's case. She also ordered an additional seven-year prison term should the former aide fail to pay the substantial fine.

The court approved a stay of execution on the sentence pending an appeal, setting bail at 280,000 ringgit.
